The Newcastle United squad is full of leaders.

Eddie Howe has built an incredible team spirit during his time as Newcastle United manager, and that is largely down to the characters in his squad.

Players he inherited such as Jamaal Lascelles, Callum Wilson and Jacob Murphy are part of the leadership group on Tyneside, and they are joined by three players that Howe has signed since his arrival at St James’ Park.

Bruno Guimaraes, Kieran Trippier and Dan Burn are also part of the inner circle, with Bruno the most recent player to join the group. In fact, Bruno is now Newcastle’s on-field captain, and wears the armband every week.

That is a testament to his ability as a leader. He leads by example with his performances and passion, while he is a great communicator too.

Bruno was one of the key players that helped Sandro Tonali during his suspension, alongside Trippier, Lascelles and Joelinton.

Joelinton hails ‘incredible’ Bruno Guimaraes

Ever since his £40million arrival from Lyon, Bruno has been outstanding in a black and white shirt.

That fact is not lost on his fellow Brazilian Joelinton, who has told UOL what has made Bruno so special for Newcastle United.

“It’s incredible,” he said.

“I think he wanted to play on the first day. The coach held back a bit until he got him to play.

“But since he was in the starting lineup, he’s never left. There’s no way around it: the quality he has, the leadership, the energy he brings, the experience… It’s incredible. It’s like he’s been at the club for 15 years.

“The fans love Bruno, he loves the fans.”

Bruno Guimaraes is so reliable for Newcastle United

Bruno has grown during his Newcastle career.

While it was clear that he was immensely talented when he arrived, he has still been able to get better and develop his game.

He has really emerged as a leader over the past 12 months, and that has culminated in him becoming the captain.

The 26-year-old is simply so reliable for Newcastle United, and leads by example. The midfielder rarely misses a game, making 50 out of a possible 51 appearances last season.

As Joelinton says, that reliability, combined with his passion and ability, is exactly why Newcastle United fans are in love with Bruno.
