Sandro Tonali has hit the ground running at Newcastle United after returning from his 10-month suspension.

The Italian returned to action in late August after Eddie Howe‘s decision to name him in the starting lineup against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup.

Newcastle United won 4-3 on penalties after drawing 1-1 in regular time, and supporters were blown away by Tonali on his return.

Not only has Sandro Tonali impressed at club level since his return, but he also shone for Italy during the international break with a superb display against France.

Tonali missed out on a starting spot against Wolves, but he was one of three changes at half-time which helped to inspire Newcastle’s 2-1 comeback.

He is looking more and more at home on Tyneside, and he picked out four players who have helped him the most.

Newcastle United quartet helped Sandro Tonali during ban

Tonali received his betting ban just two months after becoming the second most expensive signing in Newcastle’s history with a £55m move.

It must have been difficult for Tonali to settle given that he could not help the team during his suspension, but the staff at St James’ Park have been delighted with Tonali’s attitude on his return.

The 24-year-old has now spoken about his return from suspension, and named four players who helped him the most.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Tonali said: “The feeling [to be back celebrating with the fans] was very, very good, because the fans were crazy after the first game,” he said.

“After the second game, the same for Bruno [Guimaraes] and Joelinton, because they supported me every day during the ban. With Kieran Trippier, and the captain Jamaal [Lascelles], these four, for me, were maybe the best players to support me.

“But every player and all the team – it’s a surprise for me, because I was a new player. I was here only for two months.

“But every person in the city, from working in Newcastle, all the people who live here, they support me and help me.”

Newcastle have incredible midfield trio

Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton already share an incredible relationship, and they seem to have taken Tonali under their wing.

They could form an iconic trio in the heart of midfield for years to come, and that is certainly an exciting prospect for any Newcastle fan.

Sean Longstaff was picked ahead of Tonali against Wolves, but Newcastle looked far more composed and solid once Tonali was brought on at half-time.

Against Fulham, it would be great to see Howe pick Guimaraes, Joelinton and Tonali as his midfield trio. They are clearly close off the pitch and that will only help their performances on it.
