Jermain Defoe claims Nick Woltemade is actually better than Peter Crouch in one regard

There are plenty of comparisons to be made between Peter Crouch and Newcastle United’s Nick Woltemade.

The height is the easiest to make, with Nick Woltemade standing just one inch smaller than the Premier League icon.

As well as height, the Newcastle United striker is also similar in style to Peter Crouch. Both players are technically outstanding, epitomising the cliche ‘good feet for a big man’.

Woltemade will hope that the Crouch comparisons continue, with the former England forward netting 108 Premier League goals in his career. The 23-year-old is well behind at the minute, boasting seven Premier League goals since becoming Newcastle’s most expensive signing ever.

But while he sits 101 goals behind Crouchy, there is one department that Woltemade comes out on top in.

Nick Woltemade told he is ‘more dynamic’ than Peter Crouch

That is according to Jermain Defoe, who previously played alongside Crouch at Tottenham Hotspur and Portsmouth.

Defoe was asked about the comparisons between Woltemade and Crouch on Premier League Productions’ Generation XG show, admitting that the giant German has a little bit extra in his game.

“He is a little bit more dynamic in terms of his movement to Crouchy,” he said.

“But what they both have, they’ve got soft feet. That’s soft feet as in like they use the pace on the ball and just try to make contact and then hopefully you know you can direct it into the corner.”

Woltemade’s movement in a Newcastle United shirt has been excellent so far. He has shown a desire to drop deep and bring others into the game, while Eddie Howe praised Woltemade for his pressing in Newcastle’s 2-2 draw with Chelsea on Saturday.

That is an important bit of praise from the Newcastle United manager, as pressing from the front is essential if you are leading the line for the Magpies.

Nick Woltemade’s friends called him ‘Crouchy’ as a kid

Woltemade and Crouch actually met for the first time on Saturday, with the former doing punditry for TNT Sports’ coverage of Newcastle United vs Chelsea.

Crouch watched on as Woltemade scored a brace, before the pair spoke during the post-match analysis.

Newcastle United’s number 27 told the 44-year-old that his friends actually used to call him ‘Crouchy’ because of his height, despite being too young to actually watch him play.

“My old clubs in Germany used to call me Crouchy,” he said via YouTube.

Crouch replied: “That’s because you’re such a good looking boy!”

“I didn’t see you too much playing because I’m so young,” Woltemade then said.

In response, Crouch said: “That makes me feel old! I look at you, you’ve got great feet, nice awareness. I like to think that I could play a bit.”

Woltemade can certainly play too, dazzling the Toon Army with his trickery. He truly is a unique footballer, and it is a delight to watch him in black and white.
