Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali has been spectacular this season, leaving any adversity in the past.

The Italian has been a big difference-maker for the Magpies this season, completely transforming Eddie Howe’s midfield.

Sandro Tonali’s first season at Newcastle United was stripped away from him when he was handed a 10-month ban for breaching football’s rules on gambling. The setback has been put behind him now and he is thriving in his first full season at the club.

Tonali scored a spectacular goal against Brentford and made it two goals in successive games at St James’ Park with a lovely finish in Newcastle’s win against Manchester United on Sunday.

During that win, Tonali showed his endurance with a magnificent run from deep inside his own half to the opponent’s byline late into stoppage time. Confidence is radiating off the 24-year-old, Tonali celebrated Bruno Guimaraes’ goal against Man United before the Brazilian had even touched the ball.

With the Italian set to be a key part of the Magpies’ final seven games, Jason Tindall has shared what truly shocked him about Tonali.

Jason Tindall praises Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali

Eddie Howe missed the Man United win after being hospitalized with pneumonia. Tindall confirmed that Howe congratulated the Newcastle players for their performance after watching the game from the hospital.

Tonali joined Newcastle for £55m in 2023 and hit the ground running immediately with a debut goal against Aston Villa. This season is where the Italian has truly shone, and Tindall is well aware of that.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference on Saturday, Tindall was asked about Tonali and his current form in the team.

“From a football perspective, we did a lot of research on Sandro [before he signed],” Tindall said.

“We loved him as a footballer, technically and tactically.

“But it’s only when you work with him so closely you realise what an exceptional talent he is, and he’s delivering consistent performances. He’s a great lad with a fantastic attitude. He’s a top, top player.”

Sandro Tonali’s demand to Newcastle United teammates

After a shaky start to the season, Newcastle are now one of the big contenders for Champions League football this season. Gone are the days when European qualification for Newcastle was down to a lucky season; the club is good enough to play in these competitions each year.

Tonali wants Champions League football, he made it clear in a recent interview that Newcastle ‘need’ to qualify for Europe’s top competition this season.

Recent reports have suggested Tonali could leave Newcastle this summer, but those claims have been shut down by his representatives.

Tonali commented on his Newcastle future recently, claiming he does not pay attention to transfer speculation.
