Jamie Reuben believes that Miguel Almiron is now Newcastle United’s ‘star player’.

That is what the Toon co-owner has told the Daily Mail, as he interrupted an interview between the publication and Miggy.

The 28-year-old has been in red hot form this season, and playing at a level that no one thought he was capable of. He is Newcastle’s top scorer at the moment, boasting eight goals. That’s two more than Callum Wilson.

Seven of those goals came in October, in a month that saw Almiron clean up in the awards. He won three separate player of the month honours, while his volley against Fulham won him the Premier League’s goal of the month gong.

It has been a sensational upturn in fortunes for the Paraguayan, who has seemingly been spurred on by Jack Grealish’s inappropriate comments over the summer.

But the Manchester City forward has now apologised, while Almiron has admitted that he has no issue with the 27-year-old.

He is just focussing on his form at St James’ Park, where he has developed into a ‘star’ in the words of Reuben.

What Reuben said about Almiron during interview

According to the Daily Mail, Reuben and Mehrdad Ghodoussi briefly sat in on Almiron being interviewed.

The winger showed reporter Craig Hope a picture of him when he was just seven, to which Hope joked that he isn’t much bigger now.

That prompted a reply from Reuben, who said: “Careful, that’s our star player.”

If you were told Reuben would say that about Almiron at the start of the season, you probably wouldn’t believe it.

But Almiron has enjoyed a sensational run of form, showing confidence in the final third that no one knew he had. He has always been a hard worker and willing runner, but he has lacked killer instinct in attack.

However, Eddie Howe has got that out of him, and now Miggy is banging in the goals from the right of midfield.

He really is a star player at St James’ Park now, playing better than he ever has before in a black and white shirt.

The challenge now is to maintain that form into 2023. He looked sharp in Riyadh, scoring two lovely goals against Al Hilal. However, he was less impressive versus Bournemouth on Tuesday night, missing an absolute sitter at the back post.

But he continues to get in the right positions, and he will believe he can carry on his incredible form and propel Newcastle into Europe.
