Jamie Carragher has not included a single Newcastle United player in his Premier League team of the season so far.
Immediately after Newcastle United’s 2-0 win over Manchester United, Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville were tasked with unveiling their teams of the season so far.
It was no surprise to see the likes of Mohamed Salah and Cole Palmer feature, while there was also room for Ryan Gravenberch and Moises Caicedo in both of their teams.
However, neither Carragher or Neville picked a Newcastle United player in their teams, despite Eddie Howe’s side really hitting their stride in recent weeks and climbing up to fifth in the table.
Two Newcastle United players snubbed by Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville

While the Magpies have struggled for consistency, there are two players who would not look out of place in a Premier League team of the season so far. They are Alexander Isak and Lewis Hall.
However, Carragher and Neville both chose Chris Wood as their lone striker, with the Nottingham Forest forward netting 11 goals. Interestingly, that is one goal less than Isak, who moved on to 12 in the Premier League after his header at Old Trafford.
On picking Wood over Isak, Carragher told Sky Sports: “Isak’s a better centre-forward than Chris Wood. But the thing I would say about Chris Wood is it feels like he’s been more consistent from the start of the season to now, whereas Isak has been out of this world in the last six to eight weeks.”
While Carragher says Isak is a superstar and the most in-form striker in the Premier League right now, his decision to pick Wood is understandable. The former Toon player has been more consistent since the opening day of the season, whereas Isak endured a difficult start to the campaign.

Lewis Hall surprisingly ignored after incredible Newcastle performances
While Isak’s poor start to the season probably cost him a place in the side, it is a different story for Lewis Hall.
The 20-year-old has been the Magpies’ most consistent player of the campaign, with his performances earning him a first ever England cap. It was richly deserved, as Lewis Hall establishes himself as one of the Premier League’s best left-backs.
However, it feels like his performances have been going under the radar.
Carragher opted to pick Fulham’s Antonee Robinson ahead of Hall, before admitting that Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez was the closest to getting in ahead of the USA international.
As for Neville, he chose Josko Gvardiol from Manchester City, but did admit that he ‘considered Lewis Hall’.
I am really surprised at the lack of attention Hall is getting, especially as he is an English player in a position that the Three Lions have struggled in.
After a tough 2023/24 campaign, the former Chelsea youngster has really kicked on. Eddie Howe has enhanced his game massively, to the point that he is undroppable from the Newcastle starting XI.
Hall is Newcastle’s most improved player of 2024, yet is going under the radar to the rest of the Premier League.
Anthony Gordon called Hall ‘unselfish’ earlier this month, and his efforts are certainly not going unnoticed by the Toon Army.
Sadly, pundits continue to snub him as the 2024/25 Premier League season reaches the halfway stage.
