The 23-year-old is one of Eddie Howe’s top performers at St James’ Park, and is now trying to establish himself on the international stage.
He has a new manager to impress, with Thomas Tuchel getting the England job. That could benefit the Newcastle United winger, as Tuchel is a fan. It was previously reported that Tuchel was blown away by Gordon when he was playing for Everton.
Now Anthony Gordon is at Newcastle, and has taken his game to a whole new level. Eddie Howe has helped transform the attacker, and he is now a player who many people think should be a regular for England.
Jamie Carragher names Anthony Gordon in his England XI after frustrating summer
One of those people is Jamie Carragher, who has discussed the FA’s decision to appoint Tuchel on the latest edition of Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football.
The former Liverpool defender was asked to name what he thinks Tuchel’s England team will be, and it included Gordon on the left of attack. Carragher explained that the decision to include the Scouser was influenced by Harry Kane being up front, with the Bayern Munich striker needing pace around him.
“And right now, I would play Gordon there because if [Harry] Kane for me is still England’s best centre-forward, you still need pace around him,” he said.
Carragher added: “People were talking about Harry Kane coming deep for the ball. I couldn’t believe people saying that. He’s been doing that for the last five years. You have to then build around that. That’s why I was frustrated that Anthony Gordon didn’t play a lot more in the summer, because Phil Foden was coming inside and clogging this area up. They needed pace around Harry Kane.”

Why Anthony Gordon did not play much for England at Euro 2024
Carragher has admitted that he was frustrated about Gordon not playing much for England at the Euros.
The Newcastle United winger went to the tournament on the back of the best season of his career, hitting double figures for goals and assists. He was even chosen ahead of major names like Jack Grealish and Marcus Rashford.
That suggested that Gordon was going to be a key player for Gareth Southgate, but that proved not to be the case.
He made just one appearance at Euro 2024, despite the Three Lions crying out for a player like him.
Gordon has since stated he was ‘disappointed’ not to play more for England, with Southgate’s side going on to lose in the final to Spain.
It has been reported that Southgate was not happy about Gordon falling off his bike whilst on his phone, while the winger’s comments about England being predictable were also not well received.
Now Southgate is gone, and Gordon will be focussed on impressing new England manager Thomas Tuchel.
