Jamie Carragher and Roy Keane have heavily praised one of Newcastle United’s summer signings.
While the transfer window is over, pundits are still giving their verdict on who has had the best transfer window.
Many will say that Liverpool have had the best transfer window, but Newcastle United’s business has also been great. By the time the window closed, Newcastle had brought in six senior signings and made quality improvements to their academy.
The biggest incoming was undoubtedly the arrival of Nick Woltemade on a club record fee. The towering German striker impressed in the Bundesliga last season, so Eddie Howe decided now was the time to pounce.
Elsewhere, Newcastle sold Alexander Isak to Liverpool for a British record transfer fee, meaning they only registered a net spend of around £60m. With the window now closed, Roy Keane and Jamie Carragher have shared their opinion on one of the Magpies’ bigger deals this summer.

Jamie Carragher and Roy Keane praise Jacob Ramsey’s move to Newcastle United
Newcastle announced the signing of Jacob Ramsey in August in a deal worth up to £43m. The 24-year-old was a victim of Aston Villa’s PSR troubles, which forced them to sell him for pure profit.
Their issues were similar to Newcastle’s PSR wobble in 2024, where they were forced to sell Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh to turn a profit.
That will not be the case for a long time, as Isak’s move to Liverpool was ‘transformative’ for Newcastle. Allowing them to invest heavily in talent in the future.
Ramsey got his first Newcastle start in the goalless draw against Leeds United, but was taken off at half time following a nasty tackle. Despite that, Carragher and Keane believe the move will be big for him.
“I like Ramsey, I’ve always been a fan of his at Villa,” Carragher said.
“I think it’s a good move. I think Eddie Howe is brilliant at those types of signings. He takes them to another level, young players coming to the club. It’s too early to tell, I think it will end up being a hit.”
In response, Keane said: “I think it’s a good signing. I like him, yeah.”
Newcastle United have signed a top player in Jacob Ramsey
The majority of attention was on whether Isak was going to leave Newcastle this summer. It happened in the final hours, taking away from the hard work which was done at St James’ Park.
Ramsey looks like a big loss to Villa, who were already struggling in the Premier League this season. When the deal was confirmed, it was clear that his former teammates were gutted.

Tyrone Mings and Morgan Rogers sent messages to Ramsey after his move to Newcastle, a sign that Howe had secured himself a top player.
Ramsey could be a long-term replacement for Joelinton, who recently turned 29. The Brazilian is currently out with a groin injury, so Ramsey will most likely take his place until he is fit enough.
Newcastle’s squad has a lot of young talent in it, and Ramsey is undoubtedly one to watch.
