There’s seemingly a chance James Trafford has played his final game for Burnley as Newcastle United circle.

Clearly, there are no guarantees Trafford will leave the Clarets this summer but Newcastle United appear to be keen.

Trafford wants to join Newcastle from Burnley, although Scott Parker’s side are surely in a much healthier financial position now they have been promoted to the Premier League

Still, Newcastle are expected to try and sign Trafford this summer. The 22-year-old has been in remarkable form this season and played a key role in their promotion. The Championship’s final day on Saturday, however, brought about some surprises.

Parker’s side narrowly missed out on winning the Championship title during the dramatic send-off for the season.

Title rivals Leeds struck deep into stoppage time against Plymouth to win the second tier on goal difference in sensational fashion, despite Burnley beating Millwall 3-1.

Burnley supporters were likely not too down, however. They still amassed 100 points on their way back to the Premier League, while Trafford and his teammates were joined by the surprise appearance of music star Natasha Bedingfield.

Her 2004 hit ‘Unwritten’ has, as described as by club chairman Alan Pace on Burnley’s official website, been the “soundtrack” of their season from supporters in the stands.

After the final whistle blew, she was on the pitch at Turf Moor singing the song.

James Trafford has already agreed personal terms with Newcastle

Trafford conceded only 16 goals in 45 games across the entirety of the campaign. He amassed the highest save percentage and clean sheet percentage in the Championship as a result, though the club missed out on breaking the clean sheet record in a single Football League season.

Instead, they matched Port Vale’s record of 30 clean sheets in a season, which was set way back in 1954.

Having impressed this season, Trafford has been linked with Manchester United

However, Trafford has agreed personal terms with Newcastle, albeit that will surely mean little if they cannot convince Burnley to sell.
