Newcastle United lost again last night, with Arsenal running out 3-0 winners at the Emirates Stadium in the Premier League.
The Magpies’ winless run has extended to nine matches in all competitions, and the clamour for Steve Bruce’s sacking has never been greater.
The manager named an attacking lineup last night, but was still unable to get his side to look remotely threatening in north London.
Callum Wilson and Joelinton really struggled to make an impact, and the visitors failed to create clear-cut chances.
The club is tumbling towards the relegation zone, with seven points separating them and Fulham in the league table. The Cottagers do now have a game in hand.
With Newcastle in the Monday Night Football spotlight last night it meant the Magpies’ problems were on show for all to see.
One man who was shocked by the performance, and the club’s recent form, was BT Sport anchor Jake Humphrey, who was asked for his take on the situation on Twitter.
He said: “I’m afraid the stats weren’t lying. The results were. The biggest thing tho for me is how listless and drifting the club is.
“The issues go right to the top. What’s the plan, what’s the culture, what’s the future & why aren’t the fans at the very centre of it? Really sad to see…”
An accurate assessment
Listless and drifting sums it up quite well.
Newcastle will never be able to flourish as a big club should while under the control of Mike Ashley.
And with Bruce at the helm, ambitions of a push for Europe are absolutely out of the question.
