Signing strikers is not cheap, and Callum Wilson believes it would take a lot of money for Newcastle United to replace him.

The Toon number nine has been speaking alongside Michail Antonio about player valuation on the latest episode of the Footballer’s Football Podcast, after the CIES Football Observatory determined that Jude Bellingham is the most valuable player in the world right now.

Bruno Guimaraes was ranked as the 25th most valuable player in the world, while there was also an appearance on the list from Alexander Isak. He is Newcastle’s most expensive signing ever, and the man who will be leading the line at St James’ Park for years to come.

As for Callum Wilson, he will be replaced in the coming years. He is 31 now, and Newcastle will eventually look to bring in someone younger to take his place. It has even been suggested that should happen sooner rather than later, with Wilson continuing to struggle with injuries.

But Wilson does not think a replacement will come cheap, after baulking at the suggestion that he is only worth around £10million in today’s market.

Callum Wilson not happy with Michail Antonio’s valuation of him

On the latest episode of the Footballer’s Football Podcast, Wilson stated that West Ham attacker Antonio is worth around £5million right now. Then Antonio got his chance to give his thoughts on Wilson’s valuation.

Antonio: “For me Cal, I would value you at more than me right now. He’s got two years on me and scored more goals than me last year as well. I feel that the guy is doing very well. His golden ages are coming and he’s still banging goals. I would say between £10-12million. He is still banging goals, still in and around England. That puts a few mil on it!”

Wilson: “No respect, you know! You ain’t replacing me for £10million. On the field or off the field. It’s impossible!”

It will cost Newcastle more than £10million to replace Wilson

Financially, it is going to be difficult to replace Wilson. While he might be turning 32 next month, he can still provide the most valuable currency in all of football – goals.

He has got eight so far this season, while he bagged 18 during the 2022/23 campaign.

To get a player of his calibre will be extremely difficult, and there is absolutely no way it would be as cheap as £10million.

As for Wilson’s own valuation, we surely would be able to get a bit more than £10million for him. This is a man who is a proven Premier League goalscorer. He cost £20million in 2020, and you would like to think his value has not dropped that dramatically.
