Newcastle United finally have one of their big money signings back with Harvey Barnes returning on Saturday.

The 26-year-old came off the bench to score Newcastle United’s equaliser in the 4-4 draw with Luton Town. It was his second goal of the campaign, despite it being just his eighth appearance of the season.

It has been been a frustrating start to life on Tyneside for Harvey Barnes, with a foot injury keeping him out of action since September. He has not been able to make the impact that he wanted after his £39million move from Leicester City, while there were even fears that his season could be over.

But Barnes is back now, and grateful that he and the club made the correct decision to avoid surgery.

Harvey Barnes says he is ‘all good’ after foot injury

Barnes has been speaking to the Chronicle about his injury, and was asked if he feared that his season was going to be over.

“Yeah, definitely,” he said.

“It’s difficult when you speak to different specialists and you get different opinions from the professionals.

“That’s tough. We made the decision to give it a go without the operation. It’s been the right decision because it’s all good now. Now I’m just looking forward to the rest of the season.”

Newcastle were very worried about Barnes

Eddie Howe will be delighted to have Barnes back, after the club invested so much money in him. We have barely seen what he is capable of, but the early signs are promising. He has already got two goals and an assist, and there will surely be more to come before the season ends.

That is the hope, but there were fears that Barnes’ season had ended already. It took him a staggering amount of time to recover from an innocuous injury, with Newcastle opting to rehab it rather than go down the surgery route.

That was deemed the best option, but there was a fear that he would need an operation if he suffered another setback. If that had happened then his season would surely be over.

But the rehab worked, and Barnes insists that he is ‘all good’ now. Hopefully that is the case and we see him in the Newcastle starting XI very soon.
