‘Incredible’ 24-year-old Newcastle player almost returned from injury vs Bournemouth

Newcastle United narrowly missed out on welcoming a key player back from injury against Bournemouth.

The Magpies were held to a 2-2 draw on Saturday, with Matt Ritchie scoring a late equaliser to salvage a point.

It was a frustrating afternoon for Eddie Howe’s side, who did not have a striker available. Instead, we saw Anthony Gordon play through the middle, while Harvey Barnes also had a spell up front.

That is because Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson were out injured, but the former was reportedly close to actually being involved at St James’ Park.

According to the Chronicle, Isak was nearly able to feature on the bench against Bournemouth. They state that he was ‘touch and go’ for our previous fixture.

It is a shame he missed out, but it should fill fans with confidence that he will be raring to go this weekend.

All signs point towards him returning against Arsenal, having been back in training alongside fellow absentee Joe Willock.

Their availability will be a massive boost to Eddie Howe, who is starting to get a bit of a deeper squad and be able to influence games with his substitutes.

Isak’s return is particularly important. It will mean we actually have a striker, and who better than the ‘incredible‘ club record signing? The £63million man is our top scorer this season with 14 goals, and will be eager to add to that tally – hopefully starting on Saturday night away to Arsenal.

It will be interesting to see how much he is able to play at the Emirates Stadium. In an ideal world, he is ready to start and come straight back into the starting XI. However, that might be pure fantasy given he has not played since the end of January due to a groin injury.
