‘Huge boost’… Two injured Newcastle players have just returned to training this week

Newcastle United have received a huge boost as two key injured players have returned to training this week ahead of a huge game against Arsenal on Saturday night.

Eddie Howe has had to manage a depleted squad for the majority of this season and at times has been forced to play without a recognised striker as well as no first-team midfielders on the bench.

But according to Craig Hope on X, they are set to receive a big boost with Joe Willock and Alexander Isak both returning to training after suffering spells out of the team.

Injured Newcastle stars receive huge boost ahead of Arsenal

Newcastle have been forced to play without several key players this season due to an unexpected number of injuries and suspensions that have really limited their performances on the pitch.

Willock has been a huge miss with the midfielder only making six appearances in total this season – just three in the Premier League – having suffered a hamstring injury at the end of last season and then an Achilles injury back in November.

Isak has not been missing for as long but he has had several injuries that have kept him out at different points in the season and now with Callum Wilson ruled out for three months Newcastle could really do with him up front.

Now, Hope has given Newcastle supporters a huge boost as they prepare to take on an in-form Arsenal side who don’t look like they can stop scoring.

On X, Hope posted: “I’m told Alexander Isak & Joe Willock both trained today

“Huge boost for NUFC if they come through next few days & make squad for Arsenal, as looks likely.”

Newcastle will need all the help they can get this week

It may be too early for the pair to start a game this week, but Newcastle can really use their impact coming off of the bench for their trip to the Emirates at the weekend.

Although they are now five games unbeaten, the Magpies have still looked out of sorts with an unbalanced midfield and a struggling defence which has been exploited by Luton, Forest and Bournemouth.

They are slowly watching the Champions League spots slip out of their reach, but if they could possibly find a positive result on Saturday they may just give themselves a small chance.

Even if they had every single injured and suspended player back it would still be a very tricky fixture for Newcastle who have had troubles against Arsenal for decades now.
