Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson believes he is receiving some unfair treatment from Tottenham Hotspur fans after what happened at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium earlier this month.
The Magpies were beaten 4-1 by Ange Postecoglou’s side, but there was a big flash point after the full time whistle.
Callum Wilson was involved in an altercation with Guglielmo Vicario, accusing the goalkeeper of showing him a lack of respect during the final few minutes of the game.
This then led to Spurs fans hitting out at Wilson, referring back to what he and Michail Antonio had previously said about Richarlison on the Footballer’s Football Podcast last season. The duo commented on how Richarlison had received so many bookings for taking his shirt off, only for three of them to be disallowed.
Tottenham’s social media team mocked Wilson after the game, as the Brazilian forward bagged himself a brace.
Now the 31-year-old has spoke about what happened, admitting that he does not understand why he has been getting so much grief about the Richarlison comments – because it was his podcast partner Michail Antonio who was the real culprit!
Callum Wilson speaks out about what happened after the Tottenham game
Wilson has spoke about the Vicario incident on the latest episode of the Footballer’s Football Podcast.
“You put me in front of a camera to the whole nation afterwards and start asking me questions about it,” he said.
“I hadn’t even thought about the process. Like I said in the interview after, I got annoyed, it was a lack of respect and I said my piece and then it was done.
“But then as you can imagine people were saying I was showing a lack of respect to Richarlison and this and that and I was thinking it was actually Michail who was the one who brought up the subject! I just get associated with you! I sit on the fence so I don’t understand it!”
Antonio replied: “Man just threw me under the bus!”

Wilson will want to move on from his Spurs nightmare
If you go back to what was said about Richarlison, Antonio was the one who was taking the lead, so Wilson does have a point – even if he has thrown his mate under the bus!
That Tottenham game was a frustrating one for Wilson. He was on the end of a horrible tackle from Cristian Romero, then there was what happened with Vicario.
The forward was not happy, but it is difficult to side with him on this occasion. What Vicario did is the kind of thing that Toon fans would love if it was the other way round. Imagine if Jacob Murphy had done that, for example.
All Wilson can do is move on and focus on scoring goals. He has got eight so far this season, with his most recent strike coming in the Carabao Cup defeat to Chelsea.
When Wilson scored at Stamford Bridge, he shushed the home fans, which you could argue also showed a lack of respect…
