Newcastle United will be aiming to keep their hot streak going when they take on relegation candidates Wolves this week.

After ending 2024 on fire, Newcastle United have continued their fine form at the start of the new year.

Eddie Howe’s side have now won eight games in a row after overcoming plucky League Two side Bromley in the FA Cup third round on Sunday.

After defeating Arsenal in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final midweek, Newcastle will return their focus back to the Premier League this week.

The Magpies will face 17th-placed Wolverhampton Wanderers and a win could see them move in the Premier League top four should Chelsea slip up against Bournemouth on Tuesday.

Newcastle United vs Wolverhampton Wanderers team news

Newcastle have been hit with a fresh injury blow after Howe confirmed winger Harvey Barnes is set for a month on the side lines.

He said: “He’s had a scan. It’s not too bad but he will miss the upcoming games. We’re looking at around a month.”

However, there is hope that Alexander Isak, Jacob Murphy, Sven Botman and Joe Willock will be available after missing the weekend’s FA Cup tie.

The manager added: “We’ll have a look at them again today.

“They were left out with genuine reasons, all different things, but nothing major we hope.

“So minor problems that we needed to settle down. Fingers crossed they’ll be there or thereabouts.”

Wolves, meanwhile, will be without star striker Matheus Cunha as he serves a suspension and could be missing eight more due to injury or illness.

Mario Lemina, Craig Dawson, Nelson Semedo, Toti, Boubacar Traore, Sasa Kalajdzic, Enso Gonzalez and Yerson Mosquera are all out.

Predictions

Even if there has been improvements under new manager Vitor Pereira, Wolves should still not have enough to compete with Newcastle. Especially without their best player.

Newcastle are in sensational form and should be able to keep that momentum going with the chance to move into the top four on the line.

The games are coming thick and fast and the winning streak will end eventually, but it’s hard to see that happening against Wolves.

Prediction: Newcastle 3-0 Wolves.
