Newcastle United take on Manchester United in the Premier League this weekend in another crucial match in the race for a Champions League place.

It’s been a strong return from the international break for Newcastle United, who have won their last two Premier League fixtures against Brentford and Leicester City.

It’s put Eddie Howe’s side in a great position to qualify for the Champions League, especially as fifth place will now ensure a spot in Europe’s top competition.

Newcastle will need to keep their good form going to ensure they get there, though, and they have a big match with Manchester United to contend with next.

After comfortably defeating the Reds at Old Trafford earlier this year, Newcastle can do the double over Man Utd for the first time in their history.

Speaking of history, the match is also significant as it will feature semi-automated offsides, which will finally be introduced in the Premier League this weekend.

Here’s everything you need to know about the fixture.

Newcastle United vs Man United team news

There has been some good news on the injury front as Anthony Gordon could potentially return to action on Sunday.

Jason Tindall took the pre-match press conference instead of Howe on Friday and provided an update:
“He’s had a decent week with the physios.

“He was back out on grass for a session yesterday so we’ll assess him today to see how he’s responded to that then we’ll have to make a late call on whether he’s available for Sunday.”

Tindall also revealed Howe has been poorly this past week but expects him to be fine for Sunday and Alexander Isak is expected to be fit as well.

Lewis Hall, Joe Willock, Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles remain sidelined.

Meanwhile, Man United are without Amad, Lisandro Martinez, Ayden Heaven, Toby Collyer, Matthijs de Ligt and Jonny Evans but Kobbie Mainoo could be back.

Newcastle vs Manchester United prediction

It’s been approaching four months since Newcastle tore Man Utd to shreds on their own turf and Ruben Amorim’s side haven’t really gotten any better since.

They could only draw with Lyon on Thursday after yet more howlers from Andre Onana and, with the confidence Newcastle are in, they should be able to wipe the floor with them.

Prediction: Newcastle 3-1 Man United.
