Newcastle United will be aiming to get back in the saddle and advance in the FA Cup when they take on Brighton this weekend.

Eddie Howe’s side were dealt an ominous warning on Wednesday when they were comfortably defeated by Liverpool ahead of the Carabao Cup final next month.

The Reds cruised to victory thanks to goals from Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister, though the midfielder did make an admission that gives Newcastle United some hope ahead of Wembley.

Next up, Newcastle will be gunning to advance in yet another cup competition as they take on Brighton in the FA Cup fifth round.

Here is everything you need to know about the fixture.

Newcastle vs Brighton team news

Newcastle were without Alexander Isak for Wednesday’s defeat to Liverpool as he has a minor fitness issue and Howe wanted to avoid his star striker suffering a serious injury ahead of the Carabao Cup final.

Even if he is fully fit again, it’s unlikely that Isak will be risked this weekend in the cup.

However, there could be a big injury boost as all-action midfielder Joelinton is in contention to return after his spell on the sidelines.

Brighton, meanwhile, are without Igor, James Milner, Ferdi Kadioglu, Jason Steele, Lewis Dunk and Joel Veltman.

Predictions

It’s hard to know how seriously both teams will take this match given both have real chances of qualifying for European football this season through the league.

Additionally, Newcastle could really do with resting some key players as the likes of Bruno Guimaraes, Fabian Schar and Anthony Gordon are beginning to look fatigued.

Newcastle struggled to beat League One’s Birmingham City with a much-changed side in the last round, so a weakened team against Brighton might come unstuck and they have already lost at home to them this season.

Prediction: Newcastle 1-2 Brighton.
