Newcastle United take on Liverpool in the Premier League on Wednesday in a preview of next month’s Carabao Cup final.
After just about hanging on to beat Nottingham Forest 4-3 on Sunday, Newcastle United have a quick turnaround before they’re back in action against Liverpool on Wednesday.
Eddie Howe’s side managed to blow Forest away thanks to the brilliance of Alexander Isak and Lewis Hall as they scored four times in an 11-minute stretch.
That’s unlikely to happen against the Premier League leaders, though, who comfortably dispatched Manchester City 2-0 in the following game.
What makes Wednesday’s game particularly interesting is that it will serve as a preview of the Carabao Cup final between the two sides on March 16.
Whoever emerges victorious will be full of confidence ahead of Wembley, with more on the line in this fixture than just three points.

Liverpool vs Newcastle team news
Newcastle have received some positive injury news this week as Joelinton could return from injury against Brighton.
The Brazilian midfielder has missed the last four matches with a knee injury but is nearly fit again, though he won’t play against Liverpool.
Sandro Tonali is ‘fine’ to start, however, after the Italian was benched on the weekend due to a hamstring problem.
Howe said in his pre-match press conference: “Again with Joe, it is similar to Sven, he is really improving and doing really well and pushing.
“He is another player who could be quite close [for Liverpool]. Joe is always important from a number of perspectives, especially in defending set pieces.
“Sandro came through fine, I anticipate he will be fully fit for Wednesday.”
Whether Tonali will replace Lewis Miley, who was excellent against Forest, remains to be seen.
Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles remain sidelined.
Liverpool, meanwhile, expect Alexis Mac Allister to be available but will be without defensive duo Conor Bradley and Joe Gomez.

Prediction
Newcastle are increasingly difficult to predict at the moment, especially in the wake of a match in which they led 4-1 and came perilously close to throwing it all away.
The Magpies were sublime when they met Liverpool in December, with Fabian Schar’s late equaliser more than deserved. Isak managed to rumble Virgil van Dijk, which not many strikers do, and Newcastle proved they can hurt them.
Yet, if they defend like they did vs Forest against Liverpool and Mohamed Salah, then they could be in real trouble.
Prediction: Liverpool 2-0 Newcastle.
