How PIF really feel about Newcastle United’s chaotic summer transfer window after criticism

The most challenging transfer window of the PIF era is over at Newcastle United and it remains to be seen how successful it has been.

Indeed, Newcastle United made six major signings during the summer of 2025, adding crucial depth to Eddie Howe’s squad.

That, however, does not tell the whole story. Newcastle missed out on some key transfer targets, while they were forced to sell star player Alexander Isak to Liverpool on the final day of the window.

There are positives to take, of course. Yoane Wissa brings proven Premier League goals into the Newcastle United squad and there is huge excitement about the addition of Nick Woltemade.

Aaron Ramsdale, Malick Thiaw, Jacob Ramsey and Anthony Elanga give Howe many more options for the rest of the season ahead too.

Still, there have been questions levelled at the Newcastle United owners. PIF have been transformative for Newcastle, but did frustrate supporters this summer.

For the first time ever, PIF’s ambition at Newcastle has been questioned. However, the feeling behind the scenes appears to be very different.

PIF proud of Newcastle United’s transfer window

According to The Chronicle, decision-makers on Tyneside are proud of the work they have done in the transfer market this summer.

The message from PIF is that they are pleased about how it’s gone, given the club have been operating without a CEO or a sporting director.

While it would be foolish to suggest that things have been easy, Newcastle do end the summer in a stronger position from which they started.

Obviously, losing arguably the best striker in the world is not ideal and that caveat must be applied. There is huge pressure on both Wissa and Woltemade to replace Isak’s goals.

Newcastle United could spend again in January

Fortunately for Newcastle United fans, they look to be in a position to strengthen halfway through the season too.

The last few January windows have been rather bleak for the club but that could change following Isak’s sale.

Newcastle now think they can sign top level players in January, which is exciting.

PIF have not been perfect this summer but their big spending did at least prove they remain ambitious at the club.

If they can take that into the January sales and strengthen Howe’s squad even further, then perhaps Newcastle can move on from a turbulent summer.
