Newcastle United fans are yet to see Callum Wilson in action this season.
There was a feeling that Callum Wilson might never play for Newcastle United again after last season, amid heavy rumours he would be leaving the club.
It was reported that Wilson was likely to leave Newcastle, but a St James’ Park departure did not materialise – possibly because of the back injury he suffered in pre-season.
The 32-year-old has not been seen since, missing every Newcastle United game so far. Wilson was expected to miss the first few games due to a back problem, but a subsequent hamstring issue has delayed his latest comeback.

When Callum Wilson will hopefully return for Newcastle
Eddie Howe has now said that Wilson will be back after the next international break. However, he did not offer an exact timescale on when the £20million man will be available again.
Now the Northern Echo have provided an update on Wilson’s recovery, and they have reported that Newcastle are hoping to have their number nine back for the home game against Brighton And Hove Albion on October 19th.
That is the Magpies’ first game back after the October international break, and would mean Wilson misses three more Newcastle United games – Manchester City, Wimbledon and Everton.
When Newcastle had expected Callum Wilson to return
If Wilson is able to return against Brighton, it will mean he has missed nine matches in total this season.
However, the hope was that he would only miss six.
The Northern Echo add that Newcastle were initially hopeful that Wilson would be fit to face Manchester City on Saturday.
Alas, he will be unavailable. That is a shame, as Newcastle could do with extra cover in attack as Alexander Isak struggles to get his season going.
Alexander Isak could benefit from Wilson competition
The 25-year-old has only scored once for the Magpies this season, and was an injury doubt heading into last weekend’s game against Fulham. Isak was passed fit, but was very quiet at Craven Cottage.
Newcastle need to get more out of Isak, who could benefit from the extra competition that Wilson would provide.
Hopefully Wilson is able to return immediately after the international break and that can result in a sustained period of fitness. However, his injury record means that fans are always fearful of him suffering another setback.
