Luke Edwards says it’s ‘increasingly likely’ that Newcastle will sell £20m player this summer

Newcastle United are bracing themselves to make some big decisions this summer, and that could be bad news for one of their most reliable goalscorers.

It could be a summer of change for Newcastle United, with Toon officials well aware that the club needs to sell some players to boost their revenue and increase their PSR position.

Letting someone like Bruno Guimaraes go would allow Newcastle to spend a huge amount of money on multiple reinforcements, but that would also mean losing their most influential player. That is not what Newcastle want, so they need to raise money in other ways.

It looks likely that Miguel Almiron’s Toon career is over, despite the Paraguayan being keen to remain at St James’ Park.

He might not get his wish, and the same goes for Eddie Howe with regards to Callum Wilson‘s future.

Update on Callum Wilson’s Newcastle future

For the past few weeks, Eddie Howe has spoke about his desire to retain the services of Callum Wilson. He has reinforced how expensive it will be to sign a replacement, despite the Toon owners believing it is time for the 32-year-old to depart.

It has been claimed by the Telegraph that clubs in Saudi Arabia have already discussed possibly signing the striker, and now journalist Luke Edwards has provided a further update on the future of Callum Wilson.

He wrote on X: “Told it’s looking increasingly likely Wilson will be leaving this summer.”

What that tells us about Newcastle’s summer transfer plans

Wilson is now likely to leave Newcastle four years after his £20million arrival from Bournemouth. He has had a mixed Toon career, but there have been more positives than negatives.

His goal record in a Newcastle shirt has been excellent, proving to be more than worthy of the famous number nine shirt. Wilson has scored 48 goals in 108 appearances, averaging almost a goal every other game.

But the issue has been staying fit, with Wilson suffering from injuries during each of his four seasons on Tyneside. During the 2023/24 campaign, he has missed 25 games matches.

That is why it is time for Newcastle to make a change, and the fact that the club are now seemingly ready to move him on would suggest that they are going to sign a new striker.

The Magpies absolutely have to bring in another forward if Wilson goes, and it will be interesting to see who they target. Benjamin Sesko is an option, with Toon scouts keeping a close eye on the 20-year-old from Slovenia.
