Dan Burn had a week to remember after scoring in Newcastle United’s Carabao Cup final victory against Liverpool.
Newcastle United fans had Wembley shaking when Dan Burn scored the opener against Arne Slot’s side.
Burn’s towering header was the first goal scored by a Newcastle player at Wembley since 2000, and it was the start of a magical night that saw the Magpies end their 70-year wait for a trophy.
Just a few days before, Burn was called up to the England squad by Thomas Tuchel at the age of 32, and he will hope to make his senior international debut later this week.

What Dan Burn is doing to prepare for Newcastle United retirement
After his Wembley heroics on Sunday afternoon, Alan Shearer suggested Burn should retire on a high – but the Newcastle star insisted he has a few more years in him yet.
“I said to him [Shearer], he said I think you should retire I was like, I’ve got England international duty tomorrow,” Dan Burn said. “He was ‘oh yeah, well after that.’ No, I still feel l’ve got a good few years left in us yet.”
Burn ruled out retirement anytime soon, but he is under no illusion that he’s in the twilight years of his career.
In preparation for his retirement, Burn has already started planning for a potential coaching career.
As revealed by the PFA, Burn has begun his coaching journey by signing up on a bespoke Uefa B license course.
Eddie Howe has backed Burn to be a manager, saying: “Burn’s got an unbelievable presence and a good knowledge of the game and a great attitude, so he’d be a really hard worker.”
Dan Burn’s contract situation at Newcastle United
As things currently stand, Burn’s contract will expire in 2026 at the end of next season after Newcastle triggered a one-year extension in his deal.
The 32-year-old from Blyth clearly doesn’t have retirement at the forefront of his mind, but Newcastle have a big decision to make on his future.
