Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon has got some time off right now, but that does not mean he is away from the headlines.

The international break is underway, which means that Anthony Gordon is getting some rest. The Newcastle players who have not been chosen to represent their country have been given some time off, as they prepare for a busy winter period.

Gordon falls into that category, despite looking set to receive his first ever England callup. Instead, Gareth Southgate ignored the 22-year-old once again, despite his wonderful form in a black and white shirt.

In truth, the England snub is good news for Newcastle. It means Gordon can have some time off, which is vital for a player who has been asked to give so much as of late.

But while he has been ignored by the Three Lions, it has led to speculation that he could defect and play for another one of the home nations.

Gordon is also eligible for Scotland, who also have their eye on Toon youngsters Tino Livramento and Elliot Anderson.

Gordon is also on their radar, and a new report from the Athletic states how the Scouser feels about possibly representing the Tartan Army.

Anthony Gordon not keen on Scotland switch right now

According to the Athletic, Anthony Gordon is currently not interested in switching his international allegiance to Scotland.

They add that the Newcastle forward has not held talks with Scotland boss Steve Clarke, while he remains on England’s radar, with their coaches valuing his versatility.

England officials are clearly big fans of Gordon, and so they should be considering what he did at Under-21 level over the summer!

That is why Gordon is right to stick with England. While it was disappointing to see him miss out, his time will come. He is too talented for it not to.

If Gordon keeps playing the way he is for Newcastle then an England callup will eventually come his way. It feels inevitable, because he is so close to the squad now and can still get even better.

It is no surprise that Scotland want him, as he would give their attack an injection of real quality. But that quality is remaining on Tyneside right now, waiting for the chance to play for his country rather than looking north of the border.
