What Eddie Howe has now done with his fit Newcastle players as injury crisis continues

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe is taking steps to heal his squad amid the ongoing injury crisis at St James’ Park.

The Magpies are crippled with injuries right now, with so many Toon players unavailable. That massively hindered them in their last game, as Howe’s side were beaten 2-0 by Bournemouth.

Next up for Newcastle is Chelsea, who head to the North East immediately after the international break.

Newcastle’s squad won’t be looking too much healthier when Mauricio Pochettino’s side arrive, which is a major concern ahead of a busy run of games. There is hope that Alexander Isak will be fit to return, while it has been claimed that Miguel Almiron’s injury isn’t as bad as first feared and could be involved.

However, the latest issue is that Sean Longstaff is a doubt after hurting his ankle in the defeat to Bournemouth. And to make matters worse, Newcastle will be without the fully fit Lewis Hall, who is ineligible to play against his parent club.

Eddie Howe is now hoping that all of his international players return to the club in good health, while he is doing all he can to preserve the fully fit players who have remained on Tyneside.

Eddie Howe makes Newcastle training decision

According to the Chronicle, Howe has decided to give all of his fully fit players who are not on international duty a week off.

They add that that some of the players who have been suffering with injury are continuing to be assessed at the club’s training ground.

It is a smart decision by Howe to give his players some time off. They need to recharge their batteries, with the likes of Anthony Gordon barely stopping since the end of last season.

A week off will be a chance to rest and resharpen minds ahead of a busy winter, as Newcastle prepare to play twice a week until the end of 2023. It is going to be relentless, and Howe needs to keep his squad as fresh as possible.

That is going to be very difficult, but hopefully this week off has a positive impact and the players return revitalised when they face Chelsea on November 25th.
