‘Outstanding’ Newcastle player is likely to receive England callup this week

Newcastle United have a lot of players who are thriving at the minute who have been ignored by England boss Gareth Southgate…until now.

Eddie Howe has an English core at the heart of his spectacular Newcastle team, with the likes of Sean Longstaff, Anthony Gordon and Dan Burn seriously impressing this season.

Despite their form, Kieran Trippier is the only Newcastle player who consistently gets in Gareth Southgate‘s England squad.

The 33-year-old will expect to retain his place in the Three Lions team when Southgate announces his latest squad on Thursday, ahead of Euro 2024 qualifiers against Malta and North Macedonia.

However, a new report suggests that another Newcastle player might be getting a callup.

Anthony Gordon likely to receive England callup

According to iNews, it is likely that Anthony Gordon will be named in the England senior squad for the first time in his career.

The winger was part of the Under-21s squad that won the European Championship over the summer, where he played a key role in England going all the way and beating Spain in the final.

Gordon has since become a key player for Newcastle United, and has arguably been the club’s most influential attacking player so far this season. He has helped the Magpies compete on multiple fronts, while his versatility has massively helped Eddie Howe during an injury crisis.

The Newcastle winger has been called ‘outstanding’ for his performances, and that is no exaggeration. He has become a gamechanger for Newcastle, scoring four goals and providing two assists so far this season.

Southgate saw Gordon score Newcastle’s winner against Arsenal

His latest goal came on Saturday, when he netted the controversial winner against Arsenal in front of the Gallowgate.

The goal was also in front of Gareth Southgate, as he was at St James’ Park for Newcastle’s victory over the Gunners.

Gordon provided the decisive moment, and it looks like his form is going to be rewarded with his first ever England callup.

It is the least he deserves, so let’s hope he does in fact get the call and makes his England debut in the upcoming Euro qualifiers.
