Anthony Gordon could not be happier in a Newcastle United shirt right now.

The 22-year-old is having the best season of his young career, and continues to go from strength to strength under the management of Eddie Howe.

Gordon scored Newcastle’s winner against Manchester United on Saturday, meaning he has now scored in four consecutive Premier League games at St James’ Park.

He is proving to be much more decisive in the final third this season, boasting 11 goal contributions already – including the two penalties he won against Brentford and Burnley.

The winger is playing with a smile on his face, and looks extremely comfortable in a black and white shirt. He is giving everything for the badge, and the fans have really taken to him – after booing him relentlessly during his Everton days.

But that is all in the past, and the latest comments from former Newcastle goalkeeper Shay Given highlight just how happy Gordon is on Tyneside right now.

What Anthony Gordon recently told Shay Given

Given has spoke to The Weekend Wrap about Gordon, praising his recent run of form. He also shared details of a conversation that he recently had with the Scouser when he bumped into him at St James’ Park.

“Anthony Gordon, you mentioned there at the start, what a turnaround he’s had,” he said.

“He had a pretty slow start to his Newcastle career, went away in the summer with the Under-21s with England, player of the tournament, come back and he’s been absolutely on fire and the fans absolutely love him.

“I’ve seen him a couple of weeks ago up at St James’ and he goes… he just loves playing for Newcastle. He says the atmosphere, the buzz around the city, the whole place is alive and you can see by his performances. He’s been brilliant.”

Newcastle winger heads back to Everton this week

Gordon is loving life in Newcastle. It is a stark contrast to 12 months ago when not a lot was going right for him at Everton.

They may have been his boyhood club, but Gordon was not enjoying his football at Goodison Park, despite being a player with immense potential.

His move to Newcastle is now helping him realise that potential, and it should lead to Gordon getting an England callup in 2024.

Next on the agenda for Gordon is a return to Everton, with Newcastle heading to Goodison Park on Thursday night.

It will be the second time he has been back since his departure in January, and the first real chance for him to show the Toffees faithful how good he has become since they sold him at the start of the year.

He will not receive a warm welcome from the Everton fans, but he will at least be showered with love from the travelling Toon Army on Merseyside.
