Thursday night must have been a strange one for Anthony Gordon.
A product of the Everton youth academy, the winger returned to Goodison Park for the first time since leaving his boyhood club as Newcastle United cantered to a 4-1 win.
While Gordon was a hero for the Toffees last season, sections of the Everton support appeared to have turned on him.

Having left the club during a relegation battle, it was never likely to be the most welcome of returns.
Still, what’s done is done and Eddie Howe clearly rates him enough to have chased him both last summer and in January too.

Now firmly a Newcastle United player, its fair to say Gordon enjoyed Thursday night’s win.
Anthony Gordon’s reaction in the tunnel
Indeed, as the Magpies squad made their way down the tunnel at Goodison, Gordon appeared to take particular enjoyment.
Jamaal Lascelles, Elliot Anderson, Matt Targett, Jason Tindall and members of the coaching staff all precede the 22-year-old in the tunnel he would have walked down so often.
However, Gordon is the most notable of them all.
The winger pumps his arms and shouts in celebration, having come on for the final ten minutes or so.
Too early to judge Gordon
There have been some reasonably promising signs from Gordon thus far, albeit little to justify his price tag.
That, however, is not the most important thing in the world right now. At such a young age, he is a player for the future and the first few months were always going to be something of a learning process.

Luckily for Newcastle, the manner of their form allows Gordon to settle without too much pressure. In the long run, that could be huge.
Next season is the big one for Gordon.
