Newcastle United have confirmed the arrival of coach Elliott Dickman from Sunderland.
Dickman’s official title is new Lead Player Development Coach for the club’s under-23 side.
It was reported earlier this week that Dickman was set to make the move from the Stadium of Light.
He was forced to retire at the age of 20 with a hip injury and spent more than 20 years at Sunderland.

Steve Harper spoke very highly of the new man, telling the club website: “We’re delighted to bring Elliott to the club after a thorough recruitment process.
“Elliott is a meticulous coach with a real passion for the game, and he’s been an integral part of the success in developing players at Sunderland’s Academy over several years.
“In recent years he’s helped several players make that jump from Academy football to the first team, and we’re confident he can help our young players in making that big step for Newcastle United.”
Dickman added: “I am very excited to join the Academy staff. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop and support Newcastle’s young players in their ambitions to reach first team football. I can’t wait to get started.”

This is the first significant appointment of the new ownership regime.
It shows the emphasis they are putting on developing the club and that long-term infrastructure is essential.
