Newcastle’s search for a new manager of their Under-23 side is nearing a conclusion.
The Daily Mail report they are set to appoint Elliott Dickman to the role, poaching him from Sunderland.
The managerial position has been empty since previous encumbent Chris Hogg departed for League 1 outfit Milton Keynes Dons in August.
The interview process has seen many candidates considered, including Shefki Kuqi.
The move is the new owners’ first significant appointment since taking over the club.
And it is apparently an important one given the prominence the new regime wants to give to youth development.
Dickman has been in charge of Sunderland’s Under-23 side since 2017 but has been at the club in some capacity since 1995.
He was there as a youth team player and then moved into academy coaching when injury ended his career early.
Dickman was also assistant academy manager for more than 13 years before stepping into the role he is about to leave.
