Newcastle United could be playing against Harry Kane again in the near future.
That is the view of Gary Neville, who has spoken about the England captain’s future in the aftermath of him winning his first ever trophy.
Bayern Munich have won the 2024/25 Bundesliga title, with Kieran Trippier congratulating Kane on his accomplishment.
The 31-year-old has spent two seasons in Germany, and there is speculation that he could seek a return to English shores soon.

Gary Neville delivers Harry Kane to Newcastle United verdict
Neville thinks that will be the case, with the former Manchester United defender suggesting that Kane will spend one more season with Bayern Munich before returning to the Premier League.
However, Neville does not believe that Newcastle United will have any interest in signing the superstar striker due to being ‘okay’ in the forward department thanks to Alexander Isak.
While Newcastle do not need a top tier striker as long as Isak is at St James’ Park, Neville does think there are four other Premier League giants that are in need of a goalscorer.
“He probably will do another 12 months [at Bayern Munich],” he said on the It’s Called Soccer podcast.
“But I suspect he’ll be back next year. If you think of the clubs in the league at this moment in time who need a forward: Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea. They all want a striker.
“Man City are probably okay. Newcastle are probably okay. So you’ve got four clubs there.”
Premier League return would be bad news for Alan Shearer
While the Magpies will not be looking at Kane if he is available in 2026, a Premier League return would certainly capture the attention of Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer.
He remains the Premier League’s all-time leading goalscorer with 260 top flight goals.
However, Shearer’s record would be under threat if Kane joined a Premier League club.
| Player | Number of Premier League goals |
| Alan Shearer | 260 |
| Harry Kane | 213 |
| Wayne Rooney | 208 |
| Andy Cole | 187 |
| Mohamed Salah | 185 |
The former Tottenham Hotspur striker has 213 Premier League goals. That means he would need to score 48 more times to surpass Shearer’s tally.
Shearer celebrated Kane joining Bayern Munich in 2023 as it meant his record would remain unbroken. However, that could change if he completes a comeback to the top flight of English football.
