Alan Shearer and Kieran Trippier buzzing as Newcastle United legends react to Harry Kane’s first major trophy

Newcastle United know all about ending a long wait for a trophy.

Prior to the events of Sunday 16 March 2025, Newcastle United hadn’t won a major domestic honour in 70 years.

All of that changed at Wembley, however, when Newcastle beat Liverpool to win the Carabao Cup

It could yet be a season of unlikely cup winners, too. Crystal Palace are in the FA Cup final, while Tottenham are on the brink of reaching the Europa League final.

Then, there’s Harry Kane. Undoubtedly one of the greatest forwards world football has seen in recent years, the England captain had never actually won a major trophy throughout his otherwise stellar career.

Like with Newcastle in March, that changed for Kane on Sunday. His Bayern Munich side were confirmed as Bundesliga champions after previous holders Bayer Leverkusen drew with Freiburg.

Alan Shearer and Kieran Trippier react as Harry Kane wins first trophy in his career

Kieran Trippier played with Kane for both Spurs and England and was naturally among those replying when the striker took to Instagram to celebrate the victory.

He wrote: “Congrats bro.”

Alan Shearer, meanwhile, responded with four hand clapping emojis. He obviously did win the Premier League while a Blackburn player but the fact he never won a trophy with Newcastle was frequently used as a stick to beat him with.

Will Harry Kane ever break Alan Shearer’s Premier League record?

Shearer was happy Kane joined Bayern from Spurs as the Newcastle United legend looks to keep his all-time Premier League scoring record in tact.

Shearer, of course, scored 260 Premier League goals but Kane had started to chase him down after a series of successful seasons at Spurs.

The current England captain’s total stands at a whopping 213, meaning Kane is 47 goals behind Shearer’s record.

Had he remained in England, the 31-year-old surely would have caught up. For now, however, Shearer’s haul remains untouchable.

If Kane does ever return to the Premier League though, perhaps Shearer will start to feel a little nervous…
