Newcastle United defender Lewis Hall has become a fan favourite at St James’ Park.

The 20-year-old has established himself as a regular starter at Newcastle United, after enduring a difficult first 12 months on Tyneside.

Hall has admitted he was frustrated at the start of his Newcastle career, but now he is flourishing. The defender has improved so much under Eddie Howe, to the point that Hall has now made his England debut.

The left-back’s form for Newcastle has earned him international recognition, while he has nullified the likes of Bukayo Saka and Bernardo Silva. Hall is having an outstanding season, and the Newcastle United fans are singing his name.

While Hall has always been a player with potential, it has been a surprise to see him do so well this season.

Shay Given believes that Hall is the Premier League’s best young player this season, but his level of performance has been surprisingly ignored by the likes of Gary Neville and Roy Keane.

On the latest episode of the Stick To Football podcast, Neville and Keane, alongside Ian Wright, Paul Scholes and Jill Scott discussed the Premier League’s most surprising players this season.

They talked about the likes of Chris Wood, Morgan Rogers, Liam Delap and Ryan Gravenberch, but there was no mention of Lewis Hall.

Lewis Hall going under the radar for Newcastle

They may simply have just forgotten about Hall, but it is a shock to see him not even get a mention – especially on the back of him winning his first two England caps during the international break.

Hall will continue to fly under the radar, as he steadily continues his progression. He is a shadow of the player he was when he joined in 2023, at a time when onlookers were questioning why Newcastle would agree to pay £28million for him.

But now the youngster is justifying that fee. In fact, Eddie Howe thinks Hall will eventually prove to be a bargain.

By then, no one will be surprised by Hall’s talent. Fortunately, Newcastle fans know exactly how good Hall has been this season. He has made the left-back position his own, and is anything but a weak link in the side.

Hall has become a key component of Howe’s team, even if he is not getting the mainstream adulation that he deserves.
