Gary Lineker is expecting an action-packed end to the season for Newcastle United.

Newcastle United are still fighting on three fronts as we approach the business end of the 2024/25 campaign.

Sunday’s dramatic 4-3 win over Nottingham Forest put Eddie Howe’s side firmly in the race for Champions League qualification with Newcastle climbing back up to fifth in the Premier League table.

Newcastle’s Premier League campaign resumes on Wednesday evening with a trip to face Liverpool – the same opposition the Magpies will face in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley next month.

Of course, there is still plenty to fight for in the Premier League too and Alan Shearer backs Newcastle to reach the Champions League this season.

As for the cup competitions, Gary Lineker has dropped his prediction that Newcastle fans will absolutely love.

Speaking on The Rest is Football, Lineker said: “I’ve got a weird feeling that Newcastle are going to win both cups.

“Because you know what it’s like, it’s like the old waiting for a bus and then two come along at once.”

The idea of winning both the Carabao Cup and FA Cup sent Alan Shearer into a meltdown. The Newcastle legend replied: “Lads, if that were to happen you wouldn’t see me for months, I’d go missing.”

During Howe’s first three years as Newcastle manager, he has exceeded all expectations.

After steering Newcastle clear of relegation, Howe led the Magpies to the 2023 Carabao Cup final and qualified for the Champions League for the first time in 20 years.

Despite a serious lack of investment in the playing squad due to PSR concerns, Howe is on the brink of going one step further.
