A well-loved Newcastle United star was at Old Trafford on Monday night.

It was a night to remember as Newcastle breezed past Manchester United thanks to early goals from Alexander Isak and Joelinton.

Newcastle’s midfield were electric once again with Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes proving they can work together to create a magnificent partnership in the middle. It’s now four Premier League wins in a row for Toon boss Eddie Howe who has been happy to let the results do the talking over recent weeks.

The Magpies were serenaded by 3,000 travelling Geordies who saw Newcastle win their first league game at Old Trafford since 2013.

Amongst the fans was a former Newcastle star who played against Man United for the Magpies on four occasions.

Paul Dummett in the away section for Old Trafford win

Following his release from Newcastle after 23 years at the club in the summer, defender Paul Dummett signed for Wigan in November but is yet to start a game for the Latics, the 33-year-old has only played 35 minutes in the nine games he’s been available for.

With his contract expiring on New Year’s Day, it’s likely that he will spend the January transfer window looking for a new club.

However, on Monday he posted a picture on his Instagram story showing he was in the away end for Newcastle’s win against Man United.

Dummett was part of the Newcastle side that beat Man United 3-0 in the Carabao Cup last season, playing a full 90 minutes alongside Emil Krafth. Howe described the pair as “excellent together”.

Released Newcastle players are struggling

Newcastle released five senior players in the summer, and only three of them found new clubs.

As well as Dummett, Kell Watts signed for League One side Cambridge United and Matt Ritchie made a move to Portsmouth in the Championship.

However, Loris Karius and Jeff Hendrick remain without a club. Hendrick spent a lot of his final years out on loan to Championship sides and has failed to make anything of his career after leaving Newcastle.

Karius was linked with moves outside of England but they failed to materialise and the 31-year-old remains a free agent.

There was also a number of youth players released who have since gone on to find new clubs. Amadou Diallo joined Newcastle’s former Europa League opponents Bordeaux while Michael Ndiweni now plays for Ashington.
