Eddie Howe must repeat Alan Pardew trick for Newcastle to take advantage of this incredible opportunity

Newcastle United will feel they are the favourites against Manchester United tonight.

Eddie Howe’s side are on a hot streak, having won four games in a row to turn their season around.

In contrast, Manchester United have lost three in a row and are struggling. To make matters worse, Bruno Fernandes is suspended against Newcastle, while Manuel Ugarte is also unavailable.

Newcastle United will fancy their chances at Old Trafford, but that was also the case when they visited the alleged Theatre of Dreams last season.

Newcastle must not waste this chance against Manchester United

When Newcastle took on Manchester United at Old Trafford in the Premier League last season, Eddie Howe’s side squandered a massive opportunity.

Newcastle lost 3-2 back in May, at a time when European football was still on the line.

We were the favourites that night, yet we let Erik ten Hag’s side off the hook.

That must not happen tonight. The Magpies once again have an incredible opportunity, even if the history books are against them.

While Newcastle have done well against Manchester United since the arrival of Eddie Howe, their record at Old Trafford remains a concern.

The Magpies did win there last season – a dominant 3-0 victory – but that was in the Carabao Cup. The last time Newcastle beat Man United away from home in the Premier League was December 2013.

11 years later, Newcastle have the perfect chance to end their horrible run of form at Old Trafford in the Premier League.

Newcastle’s last Premier League win at Old Trafford

The last Newcastle United manager to win a Premier League game at Old Trafford was Alan Pardew.

On December 7th 2013, his Toon side picked up a 1-0 victory. Yohan Cabaye scored the only goal of the game that day, as a Newcastle team dressed in yellow and blue picked up the club’s first win at Old Trafford since 1972.

Pardew brought an end to an incredibly bad run. This run that Newcastle are currently on is nowhere near as concerning, but this is a much weaker Man United side. Amorim’s team are beatable, and this is a chance that the Magpies must not waste.

It is the type of game that Howe needs his big players to deliver in. That means strong performances from the likes of Anthony Gordon, Bruno Guimaraes and Alexander Isak.
