FIFA confirm how much they are paying Newcastle for World Cup involvements

FFP is a hot topic of conversation at Newcastle United right now, as Eddie Howe looks to improve his squad ahead of next season.

The Magpies have brought in Sandro Tonali, and could follow that up with a deal for Leicester City’s Harvey Barnes.

However, that could be it in terms of incomings for Newcastle – unless they move some players on. Howe’s side need to sell to buy, which has led to intense speculation that a big name like Allan Saint-Maximin could leave.

That would be devastating for a lot of fans, who are eager to see ASM stay at St James’ Park. However, it might be a necessary evil if Newcastle are to make more signings this summer.

So at a time when Newcastle need to generate more cash, the latest update from FIFA is a welcome boost.

Newcastle paid more than £750,000 by FIFA

As always, clubs are paid by FIFA for allowing their players to represent their countries and compete at the World Cup.

Now football’s governing body have confirmed exactly how much each team will be paid following the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, which was won by Argentina.

FIFA have stated that $209million will be split between every club who had a player competing at the tournament in the Middle East.

That figure is divided by the total number of days players spent at the tournament (19,080), which equals $10,950 per day.

To then work out exactly how much each team is owed, that figure is multiplied by the total number of days each clubs’ players spent at the World Cup. The amount each player played is irrelevant – it is simply the number of days they were involved in the competition.

Newcastle had five representatives out in Qatar. Kieran Trippier, Callum Wilson and Nick Pope were with England, while Bruno Guimaraes and Fabian Schar were part of Brazil and Switzerland’s respective squads. Garang Kuol will not count, as he was not officially a Newcastle player when the World Cup was going on.

Due to their involvement, Newcastle will receive $985,539. In pounds, that is £755,628.

That is the 12th highest amount in England, with Manchester City receiving the most. They got $4,596,445 (£3,524,393).

They are top of the pile because they had more players at the World Cup, and players who went deeper into the competition. For example, they had Julian Alvarez who went the distance with Argentina. In contrast, no Newcastle player made it past the quarter finals.

But the £750,000 is a welcome boost for Newcastle, who will likely see that figure increase in the future when the number of top level internationals at the club goes up.
