Newcastle United are edging closer and closer to a deal for Harvey Barnes, and Eddie Howe already has a plan in mind for the 25-year-old.

The Magpies’ interest in Barnes has intensified over the past week, with the player agreeing personal terms to move to St James’ Park.

Now the club have made progress during talks with Leicester City, and are close to agreeing a fee of £35million. That is excellent news for Newcastle, who look on course to make Barnes their second senior signing of the summer.

This comes after Howe’s players started pre-season training on Sunday, as they prepare for what is going to be another very exciting season on Tyneside.

Like every club, Newcastle are going abroad this summer. The players are off to America to compete in the Premier League Summer Series. Howe’s side will face Aston Villa, Chelsea and Brighton during their trip to the USA.

It will be a good test for Newcastle, and Howe is hoping to have a fresh face in the group when they travel across the Atlantic.

Newcastle want to sign Harvey Barnes in time for USA trip

According to the Northern Echo, Newcastle are now confident that they are going to sign Barnes after making significant progress over a deal during the past 48 hours.

The report adds that the club hope to finalise a deal at the beginning of next week, which would mean Barnes can travel with the rest of the team to America.

The Northern Echo state that Howe wants to integrate the England international into the group during the pre-season tour of the States.

While the trip will be about fitness and preparing for the new season, it will also be about team bonding. That is why it is vital that Barnes arrives in time. It could really allow him to hit the ground running in a Toon shirt.

It sounds like this deal is a goer, and that it won’t be too long before Newcastle announce the signing of Barnes.

Then it will be on to the next one, although we might need to move some players on before making another senior signing.
