‘Fantastic’ player strongly linked with Newcastle has now surprised his manager

Newcastle United did not sign a new winger over the course of the summer.

Eddie Howe was reportedly keen to strengthen in that particular position but Newcastle failed to significantly add to their squad.

Indeed, the transfer window was so quiet over the summer that Alan Shearer had suggested the owners had ”failed” the Newcastle United manager.

A move for a winger made sense, particularly on the right. Harvey Barnes and Anthony Gordon offer compelling options on the left but their kind of potency is not always translated on the opposite flank.

Miguel Almiron and Jacob Murphy may have their uses at times but it would not take a massive leap to suggest Newcastle could upgrade on the two.

Naturally, plenty of names were linked and likely will be again ahead of the January transfer window.

Chelsea’s Noni Madueke, hailed as “fantastic” by Blues boss Enzo Maresca, was one of the targets touted and some fresh insight into his situation at Stamford Bridge has now emerged.

According to GIVEMESPORT, the winger has surprised Maresca with his early-season form.

The former PSV star has scored five goals across all competitions this season and duly earned a call-up to the England squad.

It is said that the possibility of leaving the club this summer has driven Madueke to higher level of determination and dedication, which has been a welcome surprise at Chelsea.

Noni Madueke now looks off the table for Newcastle United

It’s now difficult to imagine Newcastle being able to move for Madueke unless there’s a U-turn in Chelsea’s thinking, such is his newfound importance.

That is certainly a shame, particularly because the club reportedly considered him a perfect target.

By the time January rolls around, however, Newcastle may have to look elsewhere.
