Fabian Schar has been very vocal about his desire to stay at Newcastle United.
The 32-year-old is in the final year of his Newcastle United contract, with his current deal expiring in the summer of 2025.
However, Fabian Schar is showing no signs of slowing down, as he continues to thrive under Eddie Howe.
The Swiss centre-back remains a key player at St James’ Park, and Schar has said he would ‘love’ to stay at Newcastle.
Schar wants to stay, and Newcastle would be mad to let him go. The Magpies are already short of centre-backs, having failed to sign Marc Guehi over the summer.
Newcastle still need centre-back reinforcements, but it is also vital that they keep Schar on Tyneside.
Fabian Schar’s Newcastle United contract demands

That is the view of TBR Football insider Graeme Bailey, who has spoken to Geordie Boot Boys about Schar’s future.
Bailey has stated that Newcastle may need to offer Schar more than just a one-year extension to retain his services.
“I think he wants a multi-year deal,” he said.
“When you say multi-year, it always sounds like four or five years. But it just means more than one.
“He’s been Newcastle’s best defender in the last 18 months, and why wouldn’t Newcastle offer him at least a two-year deal?
“I think it will get done. I can’t think why Newcastle would only offer him a one-year extension. The fact he’s given up international football as well, he’s got two or three years left in him.”
Newcastle have a special defender in Schar
While Schar is 32-years-old and turns 33 in December, there is no reason to believe he cannot continue to thrive in this Newcastle United team for a couple more years.
He is a completely unique defender, and someone who is pivotal to the way that Eddie Howe’s side play. His passing range is incredible, and it was noticeable how much we rely on it when Schar was suspended at the start of the season.
The only concern with Schar is his pace, or lack of. However, that is not something he has ever really relied on in his career.
And with international football no longer an obstacle, Schar can commit all of his time towards being fit and ready to represent Newcastle United.
If Schar wants at least a two-year deal to stay at St James’ Park, Newcastle officials must bow down to his demands.
