Anthony Gordon is officially a Newcastle United player, and has received a welcome message from former rival Fabian Schar.
The Magpies announced the 21-year-old’s arrival on Sunday, after he had undergone his medical and media duties the day earlier.
Gordon has signed a long-term deal with Eddie Howe’s side, with Newcastle paying Everton £45million for the winger. That includes £40million upfront, then £5million worth off add-ons. The deal makes Gordon Newcastle’s second most expensive player ever.
Howe’s side are next in action on Tuesday night, but Gordon will not be allowed to play. He is cup-tied for the Carabao Cup semi final second leg against Southampton. Therefore, Toon fans will have to wait until Saturday’s Premier League encounter with West Ham to see Gordon make his debut.
In the meantime, Gordon, who is yet to receive a squad number, will be spending the week getting to know his new teammates who he has brawled with in recent years.

Fabian Schar welcomes Anthony Gordon to Newcastle
The Scouser has not been a popular figure at St James’ Park on his last two visits as an Everton player. He has clashed with multiple members of Howe’s squad, going face-to-face with the likes of Fabian Schar and Kieran Trippier.
Gordon sparked a huge incident earlier in the season when Newcastle beat the Toffees 1-0 at SJP. He got in Trippier’s face before the entire Toon team came over and squared up to him. After Gordon exchanged hostile words with Trippier, Schar came bursting in to push the youngster.
The coming together has now been used in a TikTok on Newcastle United’s official account following Gordon’s arrival. Meanwhile, the January signing has been receiving messages from his new teammates – including Schar.
The Swiss defender wrote on his official Instagram account: “Welcome Anthony Gordon, you are in safe hands now.”
Just months after taking on the entire Toon team, Gordon is shaking their hands and being welcomed into the dressing room.
There will be no bad blood from either side, as the incident just epitomised the passion that each player has. Gordon was defending himself and his now former club, and the Newcastle players were doing the same.
Now they are all singing from the same hymn sheet, and will be fighting for each other. The only way we will see Gordon and Schar embroiled in a similar incident is if they do their best Kieran Dyer vs Lee Bowyer impression.
