Newcastle United’s dull transfer window ended on a fittingly damp note on deadline day, with Eddie Howe’s squad getting smaller.
Manager Eddie Howe warned ahead of the window opening that Newcastle United were unlikely to make any moves, especially given the PSR restrictions the club came perilously close to breaking in the summer.
Instead, Newcastle trimmed the squad and raised funds ahead of a possible spending spree in the summer.
Whether the Magpies will have qualified for the Champions League to be able to compete for a higher calibre of player, however, remains to be seen.
A quiet deadline day went by nearly without incident, other than one high-profile sale going through.
Lloyd Kelly signed for Juventus on loan with an obligation to buy just six months on from signing for Newcastle on a free transfer from Bournemouth.
The summer transfer is expected to be a £20m fee, which equates to a healthy profit for the club in the PSR standings to add to the £10m earned from the earlier sale of Miguel Almiron.
