Everton star says Newcastle United have a player who he absolutely loves watching recently

Newcastle United star Alexander Isak has a big fan in a fellow Premier League striker.

After a relatively slow start to the season, Alexander Isak has returned to top form for Newcastle United in recent weeks.

Isak was brilliant in the 3-0 win over Aston Villa and his second-half goal means he has now scored seven in his last five Premier League matches.

After the full-time whistle, Eddie Howe admitted he wouldn’t swap Isak for any player in world football. Reports suggest Newcastle have placed a £150m asking price on Isak, but to Howe he is priceless.

Isak has been Newcastle’s best player in 2024 and he has entered the argument of being the best in the Premier League. Even if he hasn’t quite achieved that title, he’s certainly one of the most entertaining.

Everton star loves to watch Alexander Isak

Isak was sorely missed by Newcastle during October’s trip to Goodison Park. The Swedish striker missed out due to a broken toe.

Without Isak up front, Newcastle were unable to break down Everton’s defence and drew 0-0 in Merseyside.

Everton were also without a striker of their own with Youssef Chermiti out injured. In a recent interview, Chermiti has admitted he likes to watch Isak.

Speaking to The Athletic, Chermiti said: “More recently, I like to watch (Alexander) Isak (of Newcastle).“

“I used to watch videos of Didier Drogba, Romelu Lukaku — yes, when he was at Everton — and Erling Haaland. I like to watch different kinds of strikers because some are more for the box and others like to be outside and play.”

Youssef Chermiti almost joined Newcastle United in 2023

Chermiti joined Everton from Sporting Lisbon for a £15m fee in 2023, but he has now revealed that he came close to moving to St James’ Park to play alongside Isak.

Newcastle held talks with Chermiti in 2023 before his move to Everton. He had broken through to Sporting’s first team under now Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim.

Just six months after making his senior debut in Portugal, the 6ft 4in striker had attracted interest from several Premier League clubs, including Newcastle.

Newcastle ended the 2023 summer window without signing a striker and instead waited until this summer to bring in William Osula as back-up to Isak.
