Newcastle United are on course for a quick-fire return to the Champions League.

Currently, Newcastle United sit third in the Premier League and are therefore set to qualify for next season’s Champions League as a result.

Still, the Premier League table is all rather congested towards the top five right now and they’ll need to keep up their impressive form during what remains of the campaign.

Reaching Europe’s elite club competition could be huge for the club. Newcastle could earn £17million from qualifying for the Champions League, while the idea of offering it both their existing key players and their transfer targets this summer would be a major boost on both fronts.

Indeed, it could also help Eddie Howe keep a certain Kieran Trippier at St James’ Park.

Eddie Howe handed major boost as Kieran Trippier update emerges

The Newcastle United manager would love the veteran full-back to stay at the club.

Howe has confirmed Newcastle want to keep Trippier, who has enjoyed a remarkable return to form in recent months.

The 34-year-old is under contract until the summer of 2026 and has constantly been linked away for what feels like an age.

According to iNews, however, there is a “growing belief” behind the scenes that Trippier will remain a Newcastle player if the club qualify for the Champions League.

What has happened to Kieran Trippier?

The defender dropped out of the first-team towards the end of last season during a rough patch in terms of form.

Trippier admitted he was playing badly for Newcastle in December 2023 and the emergence of both Lewis Hall and Tino Livramento gave Howe more compelling options at full-back.

Still, Trippier retired from international football in August and appears to be reaping the rewards of having a somewhat reduced schedule.

The Newcastle star is getting back to something approaching his very best and is more than worthy of a place in the squad.

Granted, he may not always regularly start when Hall returns to fitness but what an option to have on the bench, as well as behind the scenes.
