Newcastle United seriously impressed Troy Deeney against Ipswich Town on Saturday.
Eddie Howe’s side moved a step closer towards Champions League qualification, as Newcastle United beat Ipswich Town 3-0 to move back up to third.
It was a game that Newcastle United were expected to win, and they did. The Magpies got the job done, while the result condemned Kieran McKenna’s side to relegation.
Troy Deeney was in attendance for Saturday’s game at St James’ Park, and the pundit has admitted that three Toon players caught his eye.
Troy Deeney hails Kieran Trippier
Three Newcastle United players were included in Deeney’s team of the week for BBC Sport: Kieran Trippier, Dan Burn and Alexander Isak.

It was an excellent afternoon for Trippier, who got two assists. The veteran defender set up Dan Burn and Will Osula, with Deeney hailing Trippier for his invaluable experience.
“He was excellent, assured, calm and quality on the ball,” he said.
“At the ripe old age of 34, he is still showing that it’s necessary to have experience in the side.
“He helped Newcastle to manage the game when they went 2-0 up. He showed quality for two of the goals – standing a cross up for Dan Burn and also his corner for Newcastle’s third was magnificent.”
Paul Mitchell’s Newcastle United mission
At 34-years-old, Trippier continues to shine in black and white.
He has been a pivotal player as of late, coming into the team in the absence of Lewis Hall and re-finding his best form.
Trippier has been exceptional, at a time when his Toon future is up in the air.
The right-back has been linked with leaving St James’ Park for three consecutive transfer windows, and there will likely be more speculation this summer. Trippier will be entering the final year of his Toon deal, with his contract due to expire in 2026.
It is going to be a summer of change at St James’ Park, but it remains to be seen what the future holds for Trippier.
Toon sporting director Paul Mitchell has a big decision to make, as he prepares to freshen up Eddie Howe’s squad.
On top of that, Mitchell wants to lower the average age at Newcastle United.
The Magpies do have an ageing group. At 34, Trippier is an example of that. However, as Deeney has said, you need players with his kind of experience. That is why Howe wants to keep Trippier.
He continues to have a seismic impact on and off the pitch, which is why Mitchell should ensure that Trippier has a future on Tyneside.
