The January transfer window is yet to kick off for Newcastle United.
While the window thus far has been relatively quiet throughout the Premier League, Newcastle would reportedly like to sign players.
Indeed, Eddie Howe is believed to be keen to strengthen in three key areas. In goal, in midfield and up front are all thought to be positions the club are looking in this month.
Still, as ever, FFP constraints loom even despite PIF‘s many millions.
In fact, spending big this summer may even lead to one of the club’s key players being sold at a later date.
Things look frustrating in the market right now and Howe appeared to confirm that when speaking to Jim White on talkSPORT (via YouTube).

The presenter asked the Newcastle boss if any deal was close to completion, to which Howe replied: “No, nothing as we speak. No.”

Only hours after a somewhat surprising link to Bournemouth’s Dominic Solanke emerged, Howe confirmed the club simply could not afford to sign a player of such calibre.
With all due respect to Solanke, he is hardly the kind of exotic name many would have linked to Newcastle just after the takeover.
So to not even afford to be able to go out and make those kind of additions does underline just what a tightrope the club are walking right now.
Growing pains were to be expected but perhaps the only way to start spending again is to sell up.
Bruno Guimaraes, a hugely popular figure at the club, is reportedly the one Newcastle may look to move on in order to free up funds.
Though clearly not ideal, it may well be a necessary sale for the good of Newcastle going forward.
