Newcastle United are a force in English football and have a number of top-quality players in their squad, including a number of defenders.

Dan Burn is one of Newcastle’s most committed players, Lewis Hall is a rising England star, and Alan Shearer believes that Tino Livramento is “outstanding”.

Kieran Trippier is a very good and experienced right-back, and Lloyd Kelly is a valuable option to have in the squad, as Newcastle aim to finish in the Premier League top four this season.

What Eddie Howe really thinks of Newcastle United defender Sven Botman

Another talented defender on the books of Newcastle is Sven Botman. We have not seen much of Botman lately due to his injuries, but when fit and available, he is one of the best centre-backs around.

Botman will return to action for Newcastle in the coming weeks after his injury issues, and that will only enhance Newcastle’s chances of finishing in the Premier League top four this season.

Botman has played only 53 matches in the Premier League so far in his career, but, according to The Times, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe thinks that he could become a genuine great of the game.

The Times has noted that Howe believes that the £35 million defender “will go on to be remembered as one of the best centre-halves the Premier League has had.”

Alan Shearer worried about Sven Botman’s future

While Newcastle fans are eagerly awaiting the return to action of Botman, club legend Alan Shearer is actually worried about his future.

Shearer believes that due to PSR issues, Newcastle may have to sell one of their top players.

The BBC Match of the Day pundit thinks that if Botman does well after returning to action, then top clubs in England would be looking to sign him.

Shearer said on The Rest is Football podcast earlier this month: “They look really mean again at the back. There has been no respite hardly for him [Dan Burn] and Fabian Schar because of the injuries to Botman and Lascelles.

“Particularly Botman because he is a big player, you know. He is the one that if he gets a run in the team, he is not far away, I think he is near full training, so he may be another month or five, six weeks away.

“But if he can get a run in the team, he is the one that the big boys would be looking at. When you talk about Newcastle and PSR, and Bruno or Isak or whatever, he is another one. If he can get a run in the team, Botman, he could be a really big player.”
