Eddie Howe has provided an update on Lewis Hall following Newcastle United’s defeat to Arsenal on Sunday.

Having started the Magpies’ previous two games, Lewis Hall was nowhere to be seen against the Gunners. It always felt likely that he would lose his place in the starting XI, but it came as a huge surprise to see him not even make the bench.

In his absence, Newcastle lost 2-1 to Arsenal. Having taken the lead through Nick Woltemade, Newcastle conceded twice late on to suffer an agonising defeat.

Howe’s side need to bounce back, and will quickly have the opportunity to do just that. They return to Champions League action on Wednesday night, with the Magpies taking on Union Saint-Gilloise in Brussels.

Eddie Howe explains Lewis Hall absence

Ahead of that game, Eddie Howe has provided an update on Hall’s fitness.

Speaking to the club’s official website, the Newcastle United manager was hopeful that Hall will be involved in Wednesday night’s Champions League contest after suffering from fatigue.

“Just a bit of fatigue for Lew, around his body,” he said.

“He misses out. Hopefully he’ll be back for the next one.”

Newcastle United need Lewis Hall more than ever amid Tino Livramento injury

Howe will be even more hopeful that Hall is fit to face Union Saint-Gilloise after what happened at St James’ Park on Sunday.

Tino Livramento was stretchered off against Arsenal, amid fears that he has suffered a serious injury.

That would be a crushing blow for the England international, while it would also dent the Newcastle United squad. Livramento has featured in every Toon game so far this season, operating on the right and left of defence.

In his absence, Hall could have the chance to regain his place in the starting XI on a consistent basis. He has had to be patient so far this season, having worked his way back to fitness after undergoing foot surgery in March.

Now the 21-year-old is going to be needed more than ever, so it is encouraging that the reason for his absence on Sunday was just fatigue rather than something more serious.
