Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has provided an update on Callum Wilson’s fitness ahead of West Ham.
The 32-year-old has not played for Newcastle United all season, having sustained a back injury at the start of the summer. He then suffered a hamstring problem which delayed his comeback.
It has been a frustrating campaign so far for Callum Wilson. At the start of the season, he was only meant to be out for a few weeks. Alas, it is almost December and the number nine has not played a single minute.
But now a return is finally close. Wilson has told Newcastle fans that he will be fit to face West Ham, having travelled to Qatar to step up his recovery.

Eddie Howe shares Callum Wilson injury update
There was concern when Wilson was not seen in Newcastle training on Thursday.
However, Eddie Howe has alleviated those concerns by announcing that he will train with his Newcastle United teammates today (Friday, November 22nd).
The Newcastle United manager has addressed Wilson’s fitness during his pre-match press conference.
“He’s doing well,” he said.
“We anticipate he’s going to train with the group today.
Whether he’s quite there for West Ham, let’s see. But he has to get through the next few days in training first.”
Eddie Howe stresses caution with Callum Wilson
While it sounds like Wilson could be available on Monday night, Howe has been keen to stress that the club will continue to take a cautious approach.
“I think that the most important thing is that Callum does come back and when he does come back, he’s in a good place to contribute and to make a difference,” he said, as reported by the Chronicle.
“We know his importance but he’s obviously at a delicate stage of his return because you’ve got to manage the last parts correctly.
“We need to learn from previous issues that we’ve had and try and keep.”
Newcastle United need Wilson back for good ahead of busy period
Newcastle United fans are desperate to see Wilson back in action, with many supporters growing frustrated by the constant setbacks.
But when Wilson does return for Newcastle, it needs to be for a sustained period of time. That is why the club are taking extra care, as the last thing they want is for Wilson’s body to break down again.
Wilson is seemingly closer than ever to a return this season, at a time when the Magpies could really benefit from his presence.

Newcastle United are heading into a busy winter. The international breaks are over, while Howe’s side have midweek games against Liverpool and Brentford in the Carabao Cup on the horizon. And that is before we reach the festive fixtures.
With a busy run ahead, Howe will be eager to keep Alexander Isak as fresh as possible. For that to happen, he needs an alternative striker.
He needs Callum Wilson, and there will be a sense of relief inside St James’ Park if he is fit enough to play against West Ham on Monday night.
