Eddie Howe has today confirmed that he will be having a personal chat with one Newcastle United player ahead of the team’s trip to Chelsea tomorrow night.
The 45-year-old manager was over the moon to see Lewis Miley get his first goal for the club and is now keen to speak with him properly for the first time since his performance against Fulham.
In his press conference today, Howe confirmed he would be speaking with the 17-year-old and revealed how impressed he was with how Miley had handled himself in the media after the game.
Miley was calm and collected after his first Newcastle goal
The midfielder took part in some media duties with the club alongside teammate Dan Burn who couldn’t speak highly enough of Miley.
After taking his goal brilliantly, the teenager ran to celebrate in front of the Gallowgate end but could not forget to thank Bruno Guimaraes for setting him up, showing real character in such a big moment in his career.
Howe was very impressed with how the goalscorer spoke in his interviews and added that one of his biggest strengths is his ability to keep a level head in such high-emotion moments.
It’s been a lot for the teenager to deal with in the last few weeks but he looks to be taking everything in his stride and is improving in every game.
In his press conference, Howe said: “I’ll see him today and have a little chat with him. It was a really good goal, great moment and great to see him speak with some of the more experienced players after the game to the media.
“Just seeing how calm he is and how relaxed he is with what he’s doing. I’m sure inside he’s feeling more emotional than he lets on but it’s a huge strength that he’s able to keep everything inward.”
Miley has all the characteristics to be a success
A lot of the time when you see a young player rapidly rising through the ranks there’s a worry that the pressure will get to them or all the attention will go straight to their heads.
Miley has not given anyone any reason to think he’s going to end up heading in a similar direction and actually seems to be one of the hardest working and most dedicated players at the club.
With Howe as his boss and under the guidance of his more experienced teammates like Burn and Sean Longstaff who will be able to relate to the young man, Miley is in the perfect environment to continue his development.
